The Financial Aid Process at Vincent Smith School

The Vincent Smith School works with current and prospective parents to try and ensure that financial constraints don't stand in the way of a child receiving the educational experiences they need. We offer financial aid to qualified applicants clearly demonstrated need  and availability of funding. Families of returning students must contact the Business Office or Mr. Baldi if they wish to be considered for aid for the following school year.

The Vincent Smith School utilizes the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) which assists independent schools in determining a family's financial need. The Parent Financial Statement (PFS) which is computed by SSS is reviewed by our Financial Aid Committee and serves as a guideline in making financial aid decisions. The  PFC does not bind Vincent Smith School to any specific award.

All information related to the parents' financial circumstances will be treated confidentially. These forms will only be used to arrive at a fair determination of financial need. Financial aid is limited and will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis, and on clearly demonstrated need.

Who may apply for financial aid?

Anyone who has applied for admission to the Vincent Smith School may apply for financial aid.

How do I apply for financial aid?

The Vincent Smith School requires that prospective families file a Parents' Financial Statement (PFS) form. This is an official application, provided by the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS), and should be completed online at http:  sssbynais.org/parents, along with the appropriate processing fee.  This application can be obtained through our admissions office or can be completed online at: http://sssbynais.org/parents.  In addition, VSS requires that a copy of the most recent signed IRS 1040 tax forms and all supporting schedules, plus W-2s and, if applicable, partnership/sole proprietorship and/or corporate returns, be uploaded to the SSS site or sent to the School's Business Office.

How is financial aid awarded?

The Vincent Smith School utilizes the School and Student Service for Financial Aid (SSS) which assists independent schools in determining financial need. The FSC report does not require the Vincent Smith School to allocate any specific award.

Does applying for financial aid influence the admission decision?

No. Only after a student is admitted to VSS are financial aid files reviewed. Once all files are reviewed, awards are made. However, financial aid requests should be made as early as possible in order for an award to be considered.

Should I apply for financial aid before I know my child has been admitted?

Since the Vincent Smith School has rolling admissions, the requirements to apply is not currently required on a deadline. However, timely completion of the PFS and the uploading of all appropriate documentation is necessary. All applications for financial aid should accompany the application for admission.

Is financial aid automatically renewed each year?

No. Families receiving financial aid are required to reapply each year. Every application is reviewed annually. Changes in such things as income, family status, additional support and the number of children attending tuition-based institutions may increase or decrease an award.

What is the deadline for applying for financial aid? 

VSS asks that applicants complete their PFS to SSS as early as possible in the school year. A copy of the completed  IRS 1040 and all associated tax information should also be uploaded to the site.  No financial aid award will be made until a student has been admitted into the School and all necessary documentation has been received.

When will I be notified of the committee's decision?

Families will be notified as the Admissions Committee reviews the files and arrives at a decision. For returning families, the financial aid decisions should accompany re-enrollment packages.
